Theater is a cinema application from Sandwich Vision Inc ("Theater," "we," "our," or "us"), available on Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro and at in.theater. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Account information. When you create a Theater account we collect your name and email address. Theater accounts don't use passwords: you sign in with a link or one-time code sent to your email, with a passkey, or by entering a code shown on your headset. You can browse the catalog and watch free films without an account; an account is needed to buy or rent films and to keep them across devices.
Purchases and entitlements. When you buy or rent a film we record which film, when, and through which store. Purchases made in the Meta Horizon Store are recorded with the store's purchase identifier and your platform user identifier so that the film you paid for is available to you on any device where you sign in. Card details are handled by our payment processor and never reach our servers.
Viewing activity. We record what you have watched, where you stopped, and what you have saved, so playback resumes where you left it and your library and watchlist are accurate. When you are signed in on a headset, we also record when a viewing session starts, continues and ends.
Preferences you give us. If you use Discover, we keep the taste preferences you set so we can recommend films. On the web you may optionally connect a Letterboxd account, in which case we read your public ratings and watch history to improve those recommendations. You can disconnect it at any time.
Device and diagnostic data. We collect basic technical information such as device model, application version, IP address, playback quality and error reports, so we can fix problems and choose the right video quality for your connection.
Your own video files. On Meta Quest, Theater can play video files stored on your headset. This requires your permission, the files are read on the device only, and they are never uploaded to us or shared with anyone.
Media servers you connect. On Apple Vision Pro you can connect your own Plex, Jellyfin or Emby server to watch your own library. Theater keeps the server address and your sign-in token on your device and streams from your server directly. If you turn on library sharing, Theater sends us a list of the titles in your libraries, including which ones you have watched, so we can recommend films. Turning library sharing off deletes that list.
Theater relies on a small number of providers to operate:
We share only what each service needs to do its job. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Device makers and app stores. Depending on where you use Theater, the company behind your headset and app store also collects information about you, your device and your purchases: Apple (Apple Vision Pro and the App Store), Meta (Meta Quest and the Meta Horizon Store), PICO (PICO headsets and the PICO Store), Samsung and Google (Galaxy XR and Google Play) and Valve (Steam). They do this under their own privacy policies, not this one, and we don't control it. We receive only what we need from them to confirm your purchases and run Theater. Please review their policies for details.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
We use industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest, and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction.
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Purchase records are kept as long as needed to honor your access to films you have bought and to meet tax and accounting obligations. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
You have the right to access your personal data, correct it, request its deletion, export it, opt out of marketing messages, and disconnect any optional integration. To exercise any of these, contact us at the address below.
Theater is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. The catalog is rated for teens and adults.
On in.theater we use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings. The headset applications do not use cookies.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
